Citrus Cycling Racing Team

The Citrus Cycling Racing Team has grown from a group of riders that have been coming to Citrus Cycling for their winter training for the last few years. The birth of the Team is designed to maximize ‘Citrus Cycling Holidays & Training’ companys’ exposure at events in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and around the UK. The Team also gives Citrus Cycling owners Adam & Alex Radford the opportunity to support grass roots cycling in the UK.

Current Riders:

Name : Paul ‘Noddy’ Holder

Age : 34

10 PB : 20.58

25 PB : 55.30

Paul has been racing since he was a juvenile. After a 10 year gap he returned to cycling in 1997. He first met Adam while racing for Bournemouth Jubilee and Adam was riding for Bournemouth Arrow. They also raced together in the Duo Normand in 2001. Tandem timetrials proved to be the best area for improvement last season with a new 25 P.B.

Name : Steve ‘t Power’ Paley

Age : 32

10 PB : 22:11

25 PB : 58:06

Steve has been racing for 7 seasons now but his primary sport is Triathlon, where he represented GB Age Group Team at the Standard Distance World Triathlon Championships on the Gold Coast Australia in September 09. Last season saw Steve knock 4mins off his PB for a 25 and over a minute off his 10 time. Steve partners Paul on a Tandem and they have a personal best of 19.00 for ten miles. With a consistent winters triathlon training under his belt Steve is hoping to improve these times further during the 2010 season – in between the triathlon racing!

Name : Russell ‘Twiggy’ Beedham

Age : 35

10 PB : 20.29

25 PB : 53:34

Russell like Paul had a break from racing for ten seasons, but has shown that he has lost none of his speed over the years. Having recorded a 20.29 as a Junior he then recorded the exact same time in 2008 and with 3 other 20.32′s. Russell moved to the dark side this season, riding fixed to a new 25 PB.

Name :Terry ‘Silky’ Beedham

Age : 66

10 PB : 21.03

25 PB : 54.57

Terry, Russell’s father and nemesis, shows no sign of slowing down and often produces times that riders half his age can only dream of. Now retired he is training harder than ever, his current training sometimes includes in excess of 300 miles a week.

Name : Steve ‘Hobbo’ Hobson

Age : 37

10 PB : 22.40

25 PB : 59:39

Steve is a relative newcomer to the sport but has shown over the last season what can be achieved with a structured training plan and a lot of dedication. Reducing his PB by over 3 minutes last year he hopes the continuation of the training over this winter will show a good improvement in the coming season and is determinded to get under that 22 barrier.

Steve Paley’s racing report for 2010

Steve has had another successful season which has included a couple of age group wins and a number of top 10 finishes- which included World Championship qualification races for both the sprint and Olympic Distance. One of the wins Steve had this year was in the 30-34 year age group at the Rother Valley Sprint Triathlon which guaranteed his spot on the GB team. the following weekend he also secured one of 4 automatic slots for the Olympic distance World Championships. As both races are held on the same weekend Steve had to choose which race to do. After finishing 89th at the 2009 World Championships on the Gold Coast Australia he decided to stick with the Olympic distance event to try and better both time and placing.

This culminated in Travelling to Budapest for 12th September to race at the 2010 ITU World Triathlon Championships. After a solid swim and the 10th fastest bike split Steve finished in a impressive time of 1:56:20 finishing 26th in the 30-34 age group.

Yet again Steve’s training year was helped along by a very well organised training week with the Citrus Cycling Racing Team at the Citrus Cycling training camp based near Denia in Spain.

Having already qualified for the 2011 European Championships in his new age group: 35-39 yr olds: which is to take place in Pontevederra Spain. Steve is looking forward to the benefit of an early season training camp based in Spain with Citrus Cycling hosted by Adam & Alex. This should prove ideal preparation for the European Championships in July next year.
